Material planning
Estimate banding for selected panel edges
Count separate banding strips and add a trimming allowance to both ends of each selected edge.
Some panels need all four edges covered; others expose only their front edge. Adding every perimeter can overstate the requirement, while forgetting the allowance on each separate strip can leave a roll short. This worksheet keeps those two quantities separate. It estimates linear material for identical rectangular panels and does not prescribe an adhesive or application temperature.

How to use the result
- List the edges that will actually remain exposed after assembly. Label long and short edges using the entered panel dimensions.
- Choose an end allowance suitable for your banding and trimming method. The input is for each end, so each strip receives twice that value.
- Compare the total with the usable roll length. Allow separately for damaged ends, test pieces and application mistakes rather than hiding them inside an unexplained percentage.
Worked example
Three 600 by 300 mm panels with both long edges and one short edge covered need nine strips. Finished edge length totals 4.5 m. With 10 mm at each strip end, another 180 mm is required, giving 4.68 m before any extra roll waste.
Before making
- Select a banding width that suits the actual panel thickness and the product instructions.
- A continuous wrap or curved edge has a different cutting plan and is outside this calculation.
- Verify which edges must be banded before assembly because access may disappear once parts are joined.
