Seed envelope box

Gather the packets for a planned sowing session and return the remaining sealed envelopes in label order. All files are free, including your customized plan.

Sliding-lid box

Gather the packets for a planned sowing session and return the remaining sealed envelopes in label order.

A sliding cover keeps paper packets together between desk sessions. It does not regulate humidity or provide a pest seal; packets need the storage conditions specified for their contents.

For Someone organizing a small collection of labeled seed packets. Default clear opening: 272 mm × 184 mm × 69.7 mm.

Adjust dimensions and stock ↓
Measure before you start
  • Measure the largest envelope including folded closure and label.
  • Measure the full stack with category dividers and leave clearance below the moving lid.
Tools and access
  • A saw and guide for straight cuts
  • A square, measuring rule and caliper
  • Clamps and spacer strips for gluing the upper and lower lid rails
  • Offcuts matching both body and lid thickness for a sliding-fit trial
Using this organizer
  1. Keep each seed type in its own labeled closed envelope.
  2. Select the session's envelopes at the desk before taking them to the growing area.
  3. Return only dry closed packets to the correct category and close the lid.
What a useful result needs to do
  • The largest packet remains flat and clear of the lid path.
  • Labels and category dividers can be checked before a packet is removed.
  • The lid closes without trapping an envelope corner.
  • The front pull tab stays accessible and the lid meets the rear stop when closed.
If the fit is wrong
  • If envelopes become damp, remove them and follow the seed supplier's storage guidance before returning them.
  • If the collection no longer fits below the lid, split it into smaller labeled sets or increase the planned height.
Ready to make. All 12 parts fit the listed stock.

Item allowance: Closed seed envelopes and paper category dividers lie flat in short stacks — 260 × 150 mm, plus 8 mm of handling space per axis.

A feasible cutting layout

Numbered cuts span their parent region. Coordinates use the sheet's top-left origin. Trim all four edges of each sheet you use first. Keep unused sheets whole. This layout does not claim the lowest possible material use.

Compare your stock choices

Try this same inventory with offcuts first and standard sheets first. Each result is a feasible estimate; the solver may miss a better layout.

  1. 1. Measure and mark

Measure 12 mm main plywood and 6 mm lid plywood. Mark every part and its grain direction; recalculate before cutting if either thickness changes. Measure envelopes as a complete dry stack and check the actual lid thickness.

    Parts: F, B, L, P, R, U, S, T, Q · Start here
  2. 2. Cut and label the blanks

Follow the rectangular cutting map and label every instance. Machine the separate notches or grooves only after the blanks are cut. Follow the tool manufacturer’s setup and workholding instructions.

    Parts: F, B, L, P, R, U, S, T, Q · After measure
  3. 3. Dry-fit the case

Check the 320 × 220 mm footprint, square corners and centered inset base. Base clearance is 0 mm per edge; confirm the selected adhesive can bridge that gap.

    Parts: F, B, L, P, R, U, S, T, Q · After cut
  4. 4. Assemble the base and walls

Bond the base and wall contact faces, keeping the base underside flush with the wall bottoms. Clamp square and follow the adhesive cure instructions.

    Parts: F, B, L, P · After dry-fit
  5. 5. Set the lower and upper rails

Bond R at z = 69.7 mm. Fit U flush with the side tops using a 6.3 mm spacer above R. Remove spacers and clear glue squeeze-out.

    Parts: R, U, L · After glue
  6. 6. Fit the rear stop

Bond S against the back, between the side rails, with its underside at z = 81.7 mm. Keep the front entry unobstructed.

    Parts: S, B · After rails
  7. 7. Add the lid pull

Bond the 40 × 12 mm pull tab on top of the lid, centered across its width and flush with its front edge. Let the joint cure before using the pull.

    Parts: Q, T · After cut
  8. 8. Slide and check the lid

Insert T from the front. Check 0.15 mm clearance at each side and above and below, free travel to the rear stop, and full forward removal using Q. Keep the lid unglued to its rails.

    Parts: T, Q, R, U, S · After stop, pull
  9. 9. Cure, finish and check the fit

Follow the adhesive cure instructions. Smooth edges, test the intended objects and apply a compatible finish without filling the clearances. Fit four felt pads. Use only for light desktop items; no load rating is provided. Choose a dry indoor location suitable for the seed packets; the box is neither airtight nor climate controlled.

    Parts: F, B, L, P, R, U, S, T, Q · After slide
