Outside dimensions include the walls. Inset bases fit between them, with the underside level with the wall bottoms.

Try it on a complete plan

Interior width = outside width − 2 × thickness. Interior depth = outside depth − 2 × thickness. Clear height = outside height − thickness. For equal compartments, subtract every divider thickness before dividing the clear width.
